washing men’s feet

The washing of feet was done by wives for their husbands, servants or slaves to their masters and disciples to their teachers; the subordinates to their superiors. It became a religious practice after Jesus reputedly washed his disciples’ feet, turning this custom around. The introduction of the Islamic attire for women highlights another religion or culture close to the custom’s origin, and is a reflection of the perception of this culture today. It is also a reflection of the general position and role of women.
